2025 Local Content NIL Forum: Student-Athletes, Families, Coaches, Communities and Brands

New York City, NY – Local Content announces the launch of its inaugural Local Content NIL Forum, a premier event series designed for student-athletes, their families, coaches, community members, and brands. The forum explores high school and college Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) policies, as well as local content regulations across various industries that offer careers, small business opportunities, and community benefit investments that enhance the quality of life for individuals and communities. The series is presented in partnership with Sports Power Clean Energy, a leading sports, clean energy, and technology brand. The Local Content NIL Forum will take place across several U.S. markets, kicking off in New York and New Jersey in January, followed by New England in March, and Maryland and Delaware in April 2025.

NIL, or Name, Image, and Likeness, allows high school and college athletes to monetize their personal brand through sponsorships, endorsements, and other revenue-generating opportunities. This shift empowers athletes to control and capitalize on their financial potential while retaining their amateur status. With a strong understanding of NIL deal negotiation, student-athletes can improve their quality of life, not only for themselves but also for their families and the communities that supports them. Local Content Requirements (LCR) are regulations that ensure that a significant percentage- typically 20% to 40%- of goods, services, workforce, and community benefit investments related to infrastructure projects (such as commercial real estate, civil construction, maritime/ports, and the development of sports stadium and arenas) are sourced from local and domestic small businesses and taxpayers. By complying with these requirements, development projects can secure operational licenses, contracts, public funding, and tax incentives from various levels of government.

The Local Content NIL Forum integrates two critically important regulatory policies that have the potential to transform the future of families and their communities for generations. The event will offer the latest updates on federal, state, and local NIL and local content policies. In addition, it will feature reputable brands and service providers, giving student-athletes and their families the opportunity to network and navigate these complex and evolving public-private landscapes.

Key Highlights for Students, Parents, Coaches, Communities and Brands:

  • Expert insights into local, state, and federal NIL and Local Content regulations to benefit families and communities.
  • Real-world examples of NIL successes and failures for students and families, including strategies to avoid predatory practices.
  • Networking opportunities with industry leaders, students, community stakeholders, and NIL brands.
  • Case studies demonstrating the positive economic impact of successful local content integration.

“Much of the focus among our nation’s young people is on the multi-million dollar NIL deals earned by just 1% of student-athletes. However, according to recent NCAA data, most student-athletes earn NIL deals averaging between $1,000 and $22,000 per year, making our goal the provision of balanced information to help countless families succeed in the NIL space. In addition to offering policy resources and connecting brand deal partners, the forum will provide resources and opportunities to ensure that students and their families are well-versed in other lucrative local industries happening in their backyard, such as commercial real estate, maritime/ports, manufacturing, and offshore wind. These sectors offer career opportunities with annual salaries ranging from $55,000 to $125,000, leading to the development and growth of local small businesses within these industries,” said Tenicka Chaney, Director of Sports, Entertainment, and Leisure at LocalContent.com

In each market hosting the Local Content NIL Forum, organizations supporting youth sports and serving middle school, high school, and college student-athletes can apply to become NIL Forum Team Ambassadors. By completing a simple due diligence application, these organizations will be recognized as trusted partners committed to ensuring student-athletes’ safety on and off the court/field. Additionally, their youth will receive priority placement at the forum.

“I am deeply invested in the development and success of our student-athletes. My organization has been approved as a NIL Forum Team Ambassador based on our unwavering support for families, both on and off the court. Transparent NIL and Local Content policies provide a clear roadmap to success for young people and their families. We’re excited to be onboard,” says Tyrone Tillman, founder of Epic Basketball Education in Long Island, NY.
