The involvement of these local small businesses plays a pivotal role in the industry’s compliance with the local content requirements (LCR) mandated by development project regulators.
Navigating the path for small businesses to enter and thrive within an industry is a promising and challenging journey. While efforts to provide training and support are commendable, there exists a prevalent issue that hampers the growth and sustainability of these businesses: the culture of overtraining and undercontracting. It’s a phenomenon where small/diverse businesses are inundated with extensive training programs, workshops, and seminars, often designed with good intentions to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to compete. Local Content Ratings aim to measure public and private development project’s transparency and compliance to Local Content Requirements that mandate the use of local small businesses, job creation, local community benefit investments, and stakeholder engagement. We use a rules-based methodology to identify industry leaders and laggards based on their exposure to these local content criteria and how well they manage them relative to peers. Our Local Content Ratings range from transparency and compliance levels from High (AAA, AA), Mid (BBB), BB) to Low (CCC) development project performers.
