Globalinx Data Center to Break Ground on Subsea Cable Fiber Optic Project

Four additional cable bores will open new digital roads for businesses and residents in the region.

Virginia Beach, VA – A Virginia Beach company’s expansion will put it in the lead among companies operating subsea cables on the East CoastGlobalinx is poised to break ground on an expansion to accommodate four additional subsea cables at its Sandbridge landing site, more than doubling the capacity at its Corporate Landing Business Park facility. When complete, the seven tunnel bores will represent the most operated by a single company on the East Coast.

Since coming online in 2019, the Globalinx data center is connected to cables from Marea, Brusa and Dunant. The impact of the new cable infrastructure combined with advances in fiber cable technology means that this expansion will effectively increase Virginia’s subsea capacity by more than 400%.

The carrier-neutral model employed by Globalinx, combined with the Regional Connectivity Ring in our region, opens the door for businesses to take advantage of high-speed global connectivity, educational institutions to have the bandwidth to support their growing needs and bridge the digital divide, governments to improve on their public safety infrastructure, and the region to bring in new internet service providers.

“Globalinx has been a driving force to establish Virginia Beach as the premier digital port on the East Coast,” said Virginia Beach Deputy City Manager Amanda Jarratt. “This expansion enhances our digital infrastructure, further strengthening our position to ship digital traffic throughout Virginia Beach and our surrounding communities, and across the globe.”

“Globalinx has worked long and hard to bring this subsea infrastructure to fruition for the benefit of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and particularly Hampton Roads,” said Globalinx Founder and President Greg Twitt. “With a plethora of regulations, permitting to, local permissions and construction, among other obstacles landing subsea cables requires a lot of expertise, energy, patience and capital. At the end day, when a company succeeds in doing so, it adds another layer of redundancy, resilience and capacity to a rapidly increasing need in preparation for present and future AI and cloud needs.”

When this project is completed, Corporate Landing Business Park will have the capacity to be connected to two diverse terrestrial subsea landing routes, where structured carrier-neutral cable landing stations will be readily available for tenants to extend their reach into Europe, Africa, East Asia, the Caribbean and the Americas.
