Hooray for books! All throughout the month of March, our Bluepoint Wind team celebrated reading 📖 by visiting Newark public school classrooms for story hour. As part of an initiative with United Way of Greater Newark to cultivate a love ❤️ for reading, our team of celebrity readers got to sit down with students from elementary to middle school to share stories and encourage reading inside and outside of the classroom 👩‍🏫 .

Our team is always excited to connect with the local community, and supporting great programs like Celebrity Read is just one of the ways we hope to have a positive impact in our local neighborhood.

Last week, Bluepoint Wind was out and about across hashtag#NewJersey sharing information on workforce development with local communities. On Thursday, Fisheries Liaison Diana Glinos participated in Rutgers University’s Broader Impacts Workshop, where she highlighted Bluepoint Wind’s partnerships with a variety of local stakeholders. It was a great opportunity to connect with early-career scientists and the hashtag#Rutgers community involved in marine science and OSW modeling and to discuss ways we can carry relevant research into our work.

Later, our Director of External Affairs, Eric C. Henry, took part in a workforce development panel at the NJ Clean Energy Day in Newark. He spoke about our efforts to support the future offshore wind workforce and emerging opportunities within the industry and connected with community leaders, state-wide chambers of commerce, small businesses, and fellow OSW developers.

We look forward to more opportunities to connect with local institutions and partners to share industry information and learn about their goals as we work together towards the clean energy transition.

This weekend, Bluepoint Wind exhibited at the Edison Saltwater Annual Fishing Expo. Our Fisheries Liaisons and members of our External Affairs team were on hand to provide project updates, answer questions and concerns, and connect with the recreational fishing community.

We were also able to meet and hear from Rutgers University Agriculture & Natural Resources Professor Doug Zemeckis as he presented on ways to effectively practice conservation in recreational fishing. It was amazing to hear that the recreational fishing industry in NJ is a $1.3 billion industry, providing nearly 14K jobs.

Bluepoint Wind strongly believes in the responsible, sustainable, and shared use of the ocean. Our project team continually engages with mariners, including recreational and commercial fishers, to maintain lines of communication, share information, and provide updates as Bluepoint Wind progresses.

This was our second year at the expo and we can’t wait for next year! If you are a mariner looking for more information about Bluepoint Wind, you don’t have to wait until then to connect with us – visit our website at Information for Mariners – Bluepoint Wind!

Bluepoint Wind Presents to CUNY Bridges to Offshore Wind

Last week, Bluepoint Wind QHSE Manager Tom Cassidy, CSP, CMIOSH spoke to students in The City University of New York’s (CUNY) Bridges to Offshore Wind program to share information about maritime careers, opportunities in the offshore wind industry, and his journey to offshore wind.

Prior to his career in the commercial maritime industry, Tom served in the UK Royal Navy for 8 years. He then joined the industry as a Deckhand, working his way up to gaining his Master’s license. After working on Offshore Wind Turbine Generator construction vessels, Tom moved into various offshore wind construction project roles in Europe and the US. When asked why he chose to work in offshore wind, Tom said, “Working in offshore wind involves overcoming unique engineering, logistics, and environmental challenges, requiring a diverse workforce, from marine crew, engineers, and technicians to project managers and logistics experts.”

Highlighting the unique and rewarding career opportunities in our industry and the importance of training programs offered by institutions like CUNY’s Kingsborough Community College is key in preparing the workforce for projects coming to the NY Bight and beyond.
