Film Tax Credits + Local Content

Film tax credits and production incentives help attract film and television productions by reducing qualifying production costs and encouraging spending within participating markets. Across the United States, states offer programs that may reward qualified payroll, goods, services and production spending. Globally, countries and regions compete for productions through tax credits, rebates, grants and other incentives.

Local content focuses on how much economic value generated by that investment benefits the market where production takes place. Depending on the jurisdiction and incentive, qualifying local spending can include workers, suppliers, small businesses, facilities, goods and services.

“Film tax credits are about more than attracting productions. They can help power an entire economic ecosystem,” said Dan Sierra, Managing Director of LocalContent.com. “Our focus is connecting production investment to jobs, contracts, suppliers and long-term economic opportunity.”

LocalContent.com views film and television as an infrastructure industry with economic importance alongside energy, telecommunications, manufacturing, transportation and tourism. Productions rely on real estate, energy, technology, skilled workers, transportation, hospitality, safety and extensive supplier networks.

That creates opportunities beyond traditional film businesses. Companies in energy, telecommunications, manufacturing, construction, technology, real estate, tourism, transportation and professional services can explore how their existing capabilities may serve the film and television supply chain.

Council members will support the Global Film Tax Credit Market Report, year-round Film Tax Credit Marketplace and Local Content Film Tax Credit Week, July 13–16, 2027.
