PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Today, Rhode Island welcomed global wind power subsea cable manufacturer Nexans to the state in an official ribbon cutting ceremony at Cambridge Innovation Center (CIC) Providence.
“We are pleased to welcome Nexans to the Ocean State.” said Governor Dan McKee. “This leading, global manufacturer and innovator in offshore wind will be a strong addition to the collaborative ecosystem we have built here in Rhode Island.”
Nexans joins more than 30 offshore wind companies with offices at CIC Providence. The CIC houses one of the fastest growing and most diverse offshore wind supply clusters in the nation. The announcement comes as construction is currently underway on the state’s second offshore windfarm, Revolution Wind, which Nexans supports with its American-made subsea export cables.
“Companies from around the world are taking notice of what’s happening in Rhode Island, choosing to land offshore wind operations in Providence.” said Secretary of Commerce Liz Tanner. “We look forward to working with Nexans as they continue to grow their footprint off our coasts and across the region.”
With approximately 28,000 employees in 42 countries, Nexans is a global leader in design and manufacturing of cable systems and services. Nexans has an extensive track record and expertise in the offshore wind industry and has been at the forefront of technological innovation for large-scale wind projects in the United States and Europe.
“We are thrilled to officially open this new office and join Rhode Island’s deep, diverse offshore wind supply chain ecosystem,” said Christopher Minardi, Director of Communications North America, Nexans. “This space will serve as a critical operations hub as we continue in our commitment to grow our portfolio here in Rhode Island and across the New England region.”
Rhode Island will serve as a home base to support the company’s portfolio of offshore wind work in New England, including its ongoing work on Revolution Wind.
