Virginia Beach, VA – Virginia Beach is strengthening its position as a global digital gateway with Globalinx’s latest subsea cable expansion project at Sandbridge Beach. The company, a leading carrier-neutral cable landing station (CLS) operator, has embarked on a significant infrastructure upgrade to enhance connectivity, supporting the increasing demands of artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and advanced IP applications.
Globalinx’s expansion involves the construction of four new subsea cables, complementing the three existing cables at the neighboring Telxius Cable Landing Station. The initiative includes four horizontally directional drilled marine bore pipes leading into two beach manholes, connected by six miles of front-haul conduits to Globalinx’s 11-acre campus in Virginia Beach. Scheduled for completion by March 31, this project will bolster Virginia Beach’s telecommunications infrastructure, reinforcing its role as a critical hub for international data transmission. Each of the new subsea cables is designed to support up to 400 terabits per second (Tbps), providing high-capacity, low-latency data transmission crucial for emerging digital applications. With AI and cloud computing driving exponential growth in global data traffic, these upgrades position Virginia Beach as a premier connectivity hub for North America, Europe, and beyond.
Globalinx’s carrier-neutral data center has maintained 100% uptime over five years, serving as a vital network access point for the Hampton Roads region. The facility ensures seamless connectivity to Ashburn, Virginia, home to the world’s largest data center ecosystem, offering reduced latency and enhanced digital performance. In addition to the subsea expansion, the Globalinx hybrid campus includes satellite teleport gateway capabilities and provides room for up to one million square feet of future data center facilities. This flexibility allows Globalinx to adapt to evolving industry needs while continuing to attract businesses requiring cutting-edge connectivity solutions.
“As AI and cloud applications drive unprecedented demand for high-capacity, low-latency infrastructure, Globalinx is poised to meet these challenges,” said Greg Twitt, CEO of Globalinx. “This new infrastructure strengthens Virginia Beach’s role as a hub for global digital connectivity.”
Beyond technological advancements, Globalinx’s expansion carries significant economic implications for Virginia Beach. The project supports local industries, including government,
