Sports Power Manufacturing Gears Up Long Island’s Workforce and Small Businesses to Benefit from U.S. Energy and Manufacturing Sectors

Sports Power Manufacturing, part of the Sports Power Clean Energy brand, is training communities youth and adults to engage with industries shaping America’s future. Its latest Coaches Clinic, powered by US Offshore, USO Subsea, and Helberg Electrical Supply, was held at Longwood Youth Sports Association (LYSA) in Yaphank, NY. The training clinic introduced participants to high-growth industries such as offshore wind, manufacturing, CNC machine tooling, and advanced electrical supply chains, while offering actionable steps to increase small business contracting, create good-paying careers, and ensure community benefit investments within their communities. These efforts are designed to give local taxpayers an active voice in ensuring the benefits of these industries stay local and domestic.

New York’s offshore wind and manufacturing sectors are critical economic drivers, expected to create tens of thousands of high-quality jobs and inject billions of dollars into the state’s economy. The industries are projected to support the employment of approximately 10,000 workers directly and indirectly in the next decade, helping to foster the state’s transition to a clean energy future while boosting local economies.

For many attendees, this was their first glimpse into these transformative sectors—over 90% had never heard of the offshore wind industry prior to the clinic. The clinic’s focus went beyond education, providing clear pathways for individuals and small businesses to engage with these opportunities. Participants also took part in a hands-on activity to construct a model offshore wind turbine, enhancing their understanding of how renewable power generation works and the role of this technology in achieving sustainability goals.

Notably, the attendees were volunteers from Longwood Youth Sports Association (LYSA), who attended the session to learn about these industries. They do so to benefit their own families and support the hundreds of youth and families they serve each year. The Longwood Youth Sports Association (LYSA), serving over 1,500 youth and families annually, provided the ideal venue for this educational clinic. As a hub for local engagement, LYSA’s involvement highlighted the importance of community-driven approaches to workforce and economic development.

The training clinic wasn’t just about exposure—it was about action. Attendees learned how to position themselves for opportunities in high-demand fields while understanding how community benefit investments could directly impact their neighborhoods. Those who complete the program will also be eligible for premium experience at one of Sports Power Clean Energy’s Premium Sports and Entertainment experiences in New York or New Jersey, providing unique educational and industry networking opportunities. Past premium experiences include professional hockey and basketball games at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and USB Arena in Elmont.

This clinic is one of two sessions being hosted before the end of the year. A second Coaches Clinic is scheduled to take place in Freeport, NY, this December.

Powered by US Offshore, a leader in marine services for renewable energy and telecommunications; its affiliate company USO Subsea, which focuses on pioneering subsea technology solutions; and Helberg Electrical Supply, a trusted provider of advanced electrical solutions, the clinic demonstrated a comprehensive approach to empowering communities.

“We are committed to creating career pathways and small business opportunities within all of the industries we support, advancing local and domestic content compliance where people can feel the benefits directly within their households,” said Renita Certain, Workforce, Education, and Training Director at Local Content.
