Vineyard Offshore Statement on Massachusetts Procurement Awards

(Boston, MA) – Vineyard Offshore, America’s leading offshore wind developer, released the following statement in response to the announcement by Massachusetts and Rhode Island of results from the solicitation for offshore wind, which included a provisional award by Massachusetts to Vineyard Offshore for its proposed Vineyard Wind 2 project. 

“Vineyard Offshore congratulates Governor Healey and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for their commitment to procure up to 800 megawatts from our 1,200-megawatt Vineyard Wind 2 project, which provides the opportunity to deliver New England’s next-generation offshore wind project,” said Vineyard Offshore CEO Alicia Barton. “We look forward to Connecticut’s forthcoming decision on the remainder of the procurement so that we can begin to deliver important economic and climate benefits to the region.” 

Vineyard Wind 2 Highlights: Massachusetts

  • Vineyard Wind 2 will generate $1.5 billion in direct economic benefits and over 3,000 job-years of employment in Massachusetts. 
  • The project will provide up to $37.5 million in directly funded initiatives to foster a diverse, inclusive offshore wind workforce and supply chain, help address energy burden for low- and moderate-income households, advance regional fisheries and environment research, and establish the region as a global climate innovation lab.
  • The Salem Offshore Wind Terminal will be the staging site for the project’s wind turbine installation.
  • The project’s operations and maintenance (O&M) hub will be sited in New Bedford.

Vineyard Wind 2 Highlights: Connecticut 

  • $682 million in direct economic benefits
  • Nearly 400 job-years of union employment to install onshore and construct cables and transmission infrastructure
  • $20 million in directly funded initiatives to support wildlife, fisheries, and ecological resources, as well as the commercial fishing industry
  • The project also enjoys the support of elected leaders of involved onshore communities: New London, Montville, and Waterford.
